Ski British Columbia 2017/18
Your BC Ski Journey Starts Here...
Whether you're looking for a family-friendly vibe, huge big mountain appeal or a small mountain town, skiing in British Columbia always means stunning scenery, amazing snow, awesome terrain, friendly locals and incredible value-for-money.
Ski Independence offers eight world-class ski destinations in British Columbia. All are unique in character and style.
Whistler Blackcomb is considered North America’s premier four-season mountain resort, and for good reason. Located 2 hours north of Vancouver, it offers exceptional hospitality, a growing cultural scene, unbeatable year-round mountain adventure and some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery. The official alpine skiing venue for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the resort features two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb. Together they offer more than 200 marked ski runs, 8,171 acres of terrain, 16 alpine bowls and three glaciers. On average, they receive more than 11.7 metres (38 feet) of snow per year, and boast one of the longest ski seasons in North America.
Sun Peaks is located in the interior of British Columbia, 45 minutes north of Kamloops and about 4 hours east of Whistler. The resort is the second largest ski area in Canada with 4,270 acres of skiable area, two alpine bowls, 135 runs and 12 lifts. The European-style, ski-through alpine village is nestled at the base of three mountains: Tod, Sundance and Morissey. A new inter-resort shuttle will operate seven days a week with service to Silver Star and Big White, providing an easy way experience three of BC’s interior resorts in one ski trip.
Located in the interior of British Columbia, just 56 kilometres (35 miles) and less than one hour from Kelowna, Big White is a favourite family-friendly destination that boasts Canada’s largest ski-in/ski-out resort village. With an annual average snowfall of 7.5 metres (25 feet), this mountain is covered in dry, Okanagan champagne powder every year. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy 118 designated runs, 15 lifts, 2,765 acres of skiable terrain and one of the best terrain parks in North America. Think of it as the big mountain with a small-town feel.
SilverStar is located 22 kilometres (14 miles) from Vernon and less than an hour from Kelowna’s airport, and has quietly become the locals’ favourite ski resort within the sunny Okanagan. It offers heaps of champagne powder, a lively mid-mountain ski village with ski-in/ski-out access, and Canada’s first all-inclusive lift ticket. The resort features four distinct mountain faces with 3,282 skiable acres, the third largest ski area in the province. It has 132 runs, 12 lifts and, on the backside of the mountain, more than 1,900 acres of steep, deep, black and double black diamond runs.
Although the town of Revelstoke has more than a century of skiing history, Revelstoke Mountain Resort is practically brand new. The area, located between the Selkirk and Monashee mountain ranges, has long been a destination for backcountry and heli-skiing operations. However, this beautifully designed, easily accessible and modern resort with its luxurious ski-in/ski-out Sutton Place Hotel, opened in 2007 and immediately grabbed the attention of serious powder hounds. The mountain features the most vertical in North America — 1,712 metres (5,620 feet) — as well as 3,121 acres of varying terrain with two alpine bowls, 65 named runs, and an incredible variety of terrain. It’s also the only resort in the world to offer lift, backcountry, cat, and heli-skiing from one village base.
They call Kicking Horse the “Champagne Powder Capital of Canada” and it’s all that, and so much more. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort boasts the fourth highest vertical in North America at 1,260 metres (4,133 feet) and the most chute skiing, too. Tucked between the Purcell and Rocky mountain ranges near Golden, Kicking Horse has more than 2,800 acres of skiable terrain, 121 runs, four alpine bowls, 85 chutes and five lifts.
Intimate, accessible, friendly and laidback, Panorama has long been a family-favourite ski destination. Situated 3.5 hours west of Calgary along one of the most scenic roads in the world, guests can park the car and walk or ski anywhere they want to go in this cosy village. Panorama offers incredible skiing, thanks to 2,975 acres of newly expanded terrain that includes 120 named runs, 1,300 metres (4,265 feet) of vertical, one spectacular bowl and 10 lifts, not to mention some 5 metres (16 feet) of annual snowfall. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, adventurers can experience heli-skiing right from the village.
Serious powder hounds eagerly make the trek to the south-eastern corner of BC to ski at Fernie. Up to 11 metres (37 feet) of the white stuff blankets this resort each year, ranking it amongst the snowiest ski destinations in Canada. This is good news for adventurers looking to carve tracks amid 2,500 acres of terrain, spread across five powder-packed alpine bowls. Known for its steep and deep conditions, Fernie’s 142 marked runs will ensure days are spent cruising non-stop fresh fall lines.

Expect good quality and choice of cuisine wherever you ski – and although most eateries are big and functional, yes, you can also find small intimate mountain huts serving hot soup and local delicacies.
We have visited all of our featured resorts, so ask our team of Ski Specialists for their recommendations for eating, drinking & après-ski, both on and off the slopes.

On the road to Revelstoke
We use tried-and-tested transfer suppliers throughout western Canada. For most BC Ski destinations this will mean a shared transfer (the most cost effective way to get to resort). Some of these journeys are short at around 45 minutes or so, some are a little longer at around the 2 to 3 hour mark, and at this point you might want to consider a private transfer.
Private transfers mean a slicker, more seamless experience, especially for families after a long flight. Your driver will meet you in the airport arrivals hall, to depart when you’re ready, and will deliver you door-to-door to your resort lodging.
Self-drive in Revelstoke
Some guests prefer the independence of a self-drive car rental package, and we offer a full range of vehicles that include ‘Gold’ cover at all of our BC arrival airports. We’ll make sure you have a vehicle that is appropriate to your group’s size and family make-up, and will always include full driving instructions. We can also offer a package that includes a SatNav.
See + Ski BC!
Of course, the other thing to think about is breaking your journey with a city stopover – the most popular of these is Vancouver where we offer a huge range of amazing hotels. We can drop off and pickup at all Vancouver downtown hotels.
Take in the sights of Vancouver's Gastown neighbourhood
British Columbia offers all the key ingredients for the perfect ski holiday: easy to get to, a massive snow record, huge terrain for all levels, world-class lodging, legendary après-ski, and unbeatable value-for-money. Make sure you ski BC this winter!
