High Altitude Family Favourite Michael Bennett, Managing Director

"Ski-in/ski-out Avoriaz is the ideal resort for families. The facilities there are great, the views are stunning and the short transfer from Geneva make it my first choice for a family holiday. "

Avoriaz Ski Holidays

If you're looking for slopeside convenience and a wide range of self-catered and hotel accommodation, then Avoriaz is the perfect choice.

Located in the huge Portes du Soleil ski area, at 1800m and offering 600km of pistes, Avoriaz is a ski-in/ski-out snow-sure resort suitable for all levels of skier and boarder. Providing plenty of doorstep skiing, the purpose-built resort caters to families and those looking for easy access to the slopes. The resort is car free, with public transport taking the form of horse drawn sleighs and electric carts (at a charge), although you can ski or walk to pretty much everything. A favourite with people of all ages, Avoriaz offers a fabulous ski area and après-ski scene.

There are a range of ski school options in Avoriaz, including a good choice of English-speaking schools, with lessons available to children as young as 3. British-run ski schools include New Generation and the Avoriaz Alpine Ski School while the international ski school, Evolution 2, also comes highly recommended.

Skiing in Avoriaz

Avoriaz is located in an excellent position on the main Portes du Soleil circuit, giving access to extensive and varied terrain, and thanks to its high altitude, it often has the best snow of the area.

Avoriaz is a purpose-built resort and as a result, most of the accommodation is ski-in/ski-out with easy access to the beginner runs. There are a number of nursery areas for beginners and a huge choice of ski schools, making Avoriaz an ideal place to learn to ski.

The Portes du Soleil is a haven for intermediates, with plenty of long cruising runs and gentle bowls. Recommendations include the runs down to Pré-La-Joux and the slopes over towards the Grand Paradis chairlift in Champéry.

For those looking for something a bit more challenging, there is tough terrain scattered about. The Swiss Wall at Chavanette and a trip to Châtel will definitely be on the itinerary.

Snowboarding in Avoriaz

Avoriaz was one of the pioneering snowboarding resorts in France with the first terrain park in France built here in 1993. There are now 4 parks and a super pipe.

"The Stash" in the Lindarets valley, has proved to be very popular. Built in association with Burton Snowboards, it's made up of three different routes cut through the trees, incorporating wooden and natural features. There's even a 'Lil' Stash' for younger boarders.
