Started at Ski Independence:
Skier or snowboarder:
My first experience of skiing was at The Lech in 1981 while on a school trip to Abernethy Outdoor Centre, from the first ‘Bambi on ice’ style slide I was hooked! I then dragged my non-skiing family to Lecht and Cairngorm as much as possible and even to a couple of family holiday to La Plagne. Real life got in the way of much skiing for a while but after a few years of work and travel I found my perfect job at little local company called Ski Independence. Many years later here I am…still! And I still love it. Unlike many of my colleagues I didn’t have vast ski experience when I started, but I like to think I have made up for it now. At least a bit.
I am one of the few people here in the Ski Independence team who hasn’t done a ski season in a resort. I almost jacked it all in a few years ago in order to do one… I am very glad I didn’t though as life at Ski-i HQ and my home in Edinburgh are both pretty sweet!
What inspires you?
Travel of any kind. I am lucky enough to ski in a variety of places each year and then travel far and wide around the rest of the world outside of the ski season. My family love to travel as much as I do and my little boy doesn’t know how lucky he is.
What's your favourite resort, and why?
Is it dull to say the same as many of my colleagues? The last good ski day and the next good ski day will dictate my favourite resort for a least a little while. I love Aspen, was very much taken by the skiing in Verbier, the back bowls of Lake Louise are breathtaking, the lines in Taynton Bowl, Panorama test my skiing lots and lots…I adore Whistler and everything about it…I could go on but won’t.
My next trip:
I’m not too sure. I think it’s time I went back to Aspen…I wonder who can help me make that happen?
