Heavenly Ski Holiday Guide
“Head to the top of the Sky Express Chair and take the skiers right along the Skyline trail… slowly. Savour that view - It’s truly worthy of a Kodak moment!” Karen, Reservations Consultant.
Heavenly at Lake Tahoe is a ski holiday destination like no other. Heavenly mountain has a laid back Californian vibe with spectacular views over Lake Tahoe on one side and the Nevada desert on the other.
It doesn't just snow at Heavenly, it dumps and when the skies clear, the sun appears for another bluebird day. Heavenly has some incredible tree skiing plus lots of snow packed cruisers plus for experts there's Mott Canyon, Killebrew Canyon and the Gunbarrel - a mogul run that will have you screaming for mercy.
South Lake Tahoe is the 'town' at the bottom of Heavenly ski resort and it straddles the California/Nevada border.

On the Californian side the pace is slower but the same can't be said for the Nevada side where the 24 hour casino hotels dominate the skyline. Heavenly doesn't take itself too seriously, the views are to die for, the skiing is superb and there's apres-ski like nowhere else on earth. We highly recommend it! Skiing in HeavenlyWhether you stay in the California side of town or the Nevada side of town, it's a fairly easy scoot, on foot, to the new high-speed gondola in the centre of town. Residents at the Lakeland Village will need to catch a free shuttle to the bottom of the gondola, which runs frequently and takes only a few minutes. Once up above the village the mountain opens up into several faces of mainly intermediate terrain, 45% of the ski area is devoted to those of moderate to good ability. The cream of the crop are: 'Liz's' a long tribute to cruising, 'The Big Dipper' with it's wide arc and curling tail and of course 'The Olympic Downhill' a classic trail that it made it's debut in the Sixties Olympics. The views on the front face are staggering, looking out over the famous Lake Tahoe - every publicity shot of Heavenly features the crystal blue lake and we are no exception. It's impossible to tire of this serene landscape. If you find the view of the lake a distraction from the serious pursuit of alpine fulfilment and your skills could do with a bit more testing, then head off to the left from the 'Dipper Express' chair. Traverse right across the bowl and choose a gate, there are about eight to choose from, each will take you into terrain with a distinct edge, 'Mott Canyon' is only one of many worth a spin. |
