Jackson Hole Ski Holiday Guide

“After a hard day conquering the deep and the steeps of Jacksons amazing terrain reward yourself with a well earned cold beer at the lively Mangy Moose bar at the base area. They have live music and great snacks. I don’t know of any other après ski bar that has a huge stuffed Moose hanging from the ceiling!” Andy, Reservations Consultant.

Jackson Hole offers some of the best skiing on the planet - it's the big daddy of the North American big mountain ski scene and one of the World's must-visit resorts. The iconic Jackson Hole tram may have been renewed for the 2009/2010 season, but the terrain remains the same - a heady mix of grippy pistes, glades, steeps and chutes with Corbet's Couloir waiting to swallow up the brave or the foolhardy.

We wouldn't recommended a Jackson Hole ski holiday for complete beginners but for intermediate and expert skiers the recommendation couldn't be stronger.

Skiing in Jackson Hole

If your idea of fun is clipping a caution sign as you dip down into yet another impossibly steep chute, if you get so excited when you ski that you can’t help letting out the occasional yelp – then you have to experience skiing at Jackson Hole.

Rendezvous Mountain has a huge reputation for gnarly terrain. You can’t miss Corbett’s Couloir – even if you like to ski or ride on the wrong side of lunacy, you would have to lose it big time to want to hurl yourself down this – but still people regularly do.

Black runs populate the higher terrain – sometimes VW beetle bumps appear, sometimes you could wake to find twelve inches of pristine powder! The town of Jackson Hole, which is 12 miles from the ski area, is serviced by a regular shuttle. There is also a centre at the base of the mountain, Teton Village, which has exceptional accommodation. It’s your choice – the convenience of staying on-mountain or the atmosphere of being downtown.

Après Vous Mountain is the gentler companion to Rendezvous; the terrain is much easier going – a place to go when you have been humbled. There are some widely spaced trees here to wend your way through in a relaxed fashion – you can pretty much ski where you please.

The new tram construction on Rendezvous has created a real buzz within the ski world.
