Avoriaz Ski Holiday Guide

"Avoriaz might not be the most attractive resort in the Portes du Soleil ski area, but the fantastic skiing and great value self catered accommodation certainly makes up for this." Dave, Reservations Consultant.

If you're looking for slopeside convenience and a wide range of self catered accommodation then Avoriaz is the perfect choice.

Located in the Portes du Soleil ski area, offering over 650km of pistes, Avoriaz is a ski-in ski-out snow sure resort suitable for all levels of skier and boarder. Providing doorstep skiing from all our accommodation, the purpose-built resort caters for families and those looking for easy access to the slopes. The resort is car free, with public transport taking the form of horse drawn sleighs and electric carts.

The famous 'Annie Famose's' children's village has an excellent reputation and is conveniently located in the centre of the resort. A favourite among all ages, Avoriaz offers a fabulous ski domain and après ski.

Skiing in Avoriaz

Avoriaz is located in an excellent position on the main Portes du Soleil circuit, giving access to extensive & varied terrain and thanks to its high altitude it has the best snow of the area.

Avoriaz is a purpose built resort and as a result most of the accommodations are ski in ski out with easy access to the beginner runs. In 2010, four new nursery areas for adult beginners were opened and the ski school in Avoriaz has a very good reputation with several English schools available to pre book, which make Avoriaz an ideal place to learn to ski.

The Portes du Soleil is a haven for intermediates, with plenty of long cruising runs and gentle bowls. Recommendations include the runs down to Pre-La-Joux and L'Essert on the way to Chatel.

For those looking for something a bit more challenging, there is tough terrain scattered about. The Swiss Wall at Chavanette & a trip to Chatel will definately be on the itinerary.

Snowboarding in Avoriaz

Avoriaz is great for snowboarders, and was one of the pioneering snowboarding resorts in France with the first terrain park in France being built here in 1993. There are now 4 parks and a super pipe.

"The Stash", which can be found in the Lindarets valley, is proving to be very popular and we're sure that 2010/11 will be no different.

Built in association with Burton Snowboards, The Stash is made up from three different routes cut through the tree incorporating wooden and natural features. There is also the Lil'Stash, which is a mini version for younger kids.
