David Rebus, Reservations Consultant

"Avoriaz is a high altitude resort in the Portes du Soleil ski area with fantastic skiing and great value self-catering accommodation. There have been big changes in Avoriaz with the addition of L'Amara, a great new four star residence and Aquariaz, the tropical water park. With a short transfer from Geneva, it's the perfect choice for families"

Avoriaz Ski Holidays

If you're looking for slopeside convenience and a wide range of self-catered accommodation, then Avoriaz is the perfect choice.

Located in the huge Portes du Soleil ski area, at 1800m and offering over 650km of pistes, Avoriaz is a ski-in/ski-out snow-sure resort suitable for all levels of skier and boarder. Providing doorstep skiing from almost all of our accommodation, the purpose built resort caters to families and those looking for easy access to the slopes. The resort is car free, with public transport taking the form of horse drawn sleighs and electric carts, although you can ski or walk to pretty much everything.

The famous Village des Enfants kid's ski school (ages 3 -16) has an excellent reputation and is conveniently located in the centre of the resort. A favourite among all ages, Avoriaz offers a fabulous ski domain and après-ski scene.

Skiing in Avoriaz

Avoriaz is located in an excellent position on the main Portes du Soleil circuit, giving access to extensive and varied terrain and thanks to its high altitude, it has the best snow of the area.

Avoriaz is a purpose built resort and as a result, most of the accommodation is ski-in/ski-out with easy access to the beginner runs. Four new nursery areas for adult beginners have been opened and the ski schools in Avoriaz have very good reputations with several English schools available to pre-book, making Avoriaz an ideal place to learn to ski.

The Portes du Soleil is a haven for intermediates, with plenty of long cruising runs and gentle bowls. Recommendations include the runs down to Pré-La-Joux and L'Essert on the way to Châtel.

For those looking for something a bit more challenging, there is tough terrain scattered about. The Swiss Wall at Chavanette and a trip to Châtel will definitely be on the itinerary.

Snowboarding in Avoriaz

Avoriaz is great for snowboarders and was one of the pioneering snowboarding resorts in France with the first terrain park in France being built here in 1993. There are now 4 parks and a super pipe.

"The Stash" which can be found in the Lindarets valley, is proving to be very popular: built in association with Burton Snowboards, it's made up from three different routes cut through the trees and incorporating wooden and natural features. There is also the Lil'Stash, which is a mini version for younger kids.

All the Ski Independence staff are really helpful and very accommodating when I had to make changes. They were great at finding out information.
