Having watched my brother have skiing lessons when I was 5 I was excited to give it a go myself, unaware of how big a part of my life it would become! Luckily, this inspired my parents to pick up the hobby and we went away somewhere every winter from primary school to me leaving for university. After graduating in Business Management, I wasn’t ready for a 9-5 job and decided that was the time to live the dream for a bit and become a ski instructor. I spent a couple of seasons in Whistler achieving my qualifications and teaching kids, making my love for the sport and the experience greater now more than ever.
Interesting fact
It was tradition for a while for me to ski in a silly outfit at least once per holiday. Teletubbies and Spider-Man were the most memorable!
What inspires you?
When it comes to skiing, I’m a total nerd about equipment. I find it very difficult to look at/talk about boots or skis in shops and not get the itch to give them a go! The sense of adventure with skiing really grabs me too. I love the feeling of trying new resorts and exploring unknown terrain.
Favourite Resort and Why?
I’d be lying if I said anywhere other than Whistler. Having taught skiing there myself, I have so many incredible memories associated with it. The mix of terrain in both the tree line and the alpine is world class, and there are so many amazing tracks off the beaten path if you know where to look! From the huge après scene to the fantastic restaurants and hotels, the full experience that Whistler provides to people of all walks of life is truly second to none.
My Next Trip
I grew up with the assumption that you could only go to Switzerland if you had mega money to spend…now that I realise that’s not the case, I’d love to catch up on what I’ve missed out on. Top of the list would have to be Verbier, due to the huge ski area and the exciting off-piste terrain.
