About Oliver
-
I learnt to ski aged 7 at the legendary dry slope of Hillend, Midlothian. After a few stints on snow, racing (poorly) in the Scottish Highlands, I realised what skiing was all about during a week in Val d’Isere. I looked up at the ski guides with their yellow Salomon twin tips (all the rage) and doubted that anything cooler existed. I’m sure this feeling was imprinted, as a decade later I worked my first season in Courchevel Moriond (1650) doing the same job. Since then, I’ve enjoyed many weeks skiing in the Alps, as well as a couple of winter seasons working in Whistler.
Interesting fact
When I was living in Whistler from 2018-20, I was strongly considering working with the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program. Plans changed with lockdown and I’m happy to be home in Edinburgh.
What inspires you?
Being able to share my knowledge and experience with friends and family. I have some close friends who are yet to experience a ski holiday. I look forward to helping them on and off the slopes, for the smoothest and most enjoyable of holidays.
Favourite Resort and Why?
It’s a hard choice. Val d’Isere and Tignes, along with Val Thorens, are close contenders. But currently I feel most drawn to Whistler. There is so much incredible skiing, almost all within easy reach. The Peak2Peak gondola connecting Whistler and Blackcomb mountains makes navigating easy. The resort has such a wide range of people, restaurants, bars, sports, parties… and Vancouver is close by for a breath of fresh sea air.
