Whistler – Book by 15 November

The Team November 7th, 2011

It’s easy to see why Whistler Blackcomb is regularly voted the world’s best ski destination, and you won’t be surprised to hear it’s always our top selling North American resort. Whistler Blackcomb is home to a massive 8,171 acres of in bounds terrain including no less than 2 mountains, 3 glaciers, 16 Alpine Bowls and over 200 marked runs – pretty impressive stats by anyone’s expectations!  Off the slopes, Whistler offers the biggest choice of hotels and condos of any North American resort plus a dizzying array of world-class shopping, restaurants, bars and nightlife.

Following lasts winter’s staggering 52 feet of snow, forecasters are predicting another La Nina weather system for Winter 2011/2012.  For the mountains in the Pacific Northwest this means snow – and lots of it! Read the rest of this entry »

The White Stuff

Michael October 17th, 2011

Who can tell me the most exclusive place to stay in Whistler Blackcomb this coming winter? How about the Fairmont Chateau Whistler? Or maybe The Four Seasons Resort?

Ask professional skier Mike Douglas, ‘The Godfather of Freeskiing’ and pioneer of twin tip skiing, who’s decided to welcome the arrival of Winter 2011/2012 by spending 6 days and nights staying in the ski patrol shack at the top of Whistler Mountain. Exclusive it might be, but luxurious it most certainly won’t! Read the rest of this entry »

It’s Snowing!

The Team October 12th, 2011

As resorts across the southern hemisphere close their doors to skiers and boarders it’s now the turn of Europe, the USA and Canada to get in on the action.  After a week of newsletters bombarding my inbox with “It’s Snowing” in the subject line I’m in no doubt we’ve now seen the first significant snowfall of the 2011/12 season on both sides of the Atlantic.

In Europe, the Swiss Alps were the winners with up to 80cm of fresh snow falling.  In France, Les Menuires in the Three Valleys also fared well with up to 40cm and Chamonix, Courchevel and Meribel awoke to a moderate covering of snow on Sunday morning.  After a month of no resorts being open in France, Tignes re-opened the Grande Motte Glacier which will now remain open all the way through until May 2012.

Fact Files: Gareth

The Team June 29th, 2011

Over the years we receive superb feedback on the knowledge,  passion and experience of team here at Ski Independence. So we thought it would be an idea to give you a bit of an insight into who’s who..

To start things off, here’s Gareth, our Sales Manager:

For the benefit of our readers could you explain your role at Ski Independence and what you’re responsible for?

I do a bit of everything which keeps my days varied. The bit I enjoy the most though is booking the most amazing holidays for our clients (and myself).  Another enjoyable aspect of my job is working with a great bunch of hotel, transfer and on mountain suppliers from all over the world.  You get to meet some fantastic people and I think they like working with us too – hence the reason we get some of the best ski deals in the market!  We have a fantastic team here in the office and the job wouldn’t be the same without them – I love every minute of my working week with them.  Don’t quote me on that over the busiest parts of the season please…! Ski Holiday of a Lifetime

The Team June 6th, 2011

Back at the London Ski & Snowboard Show in October 2010, we announced that Neill Hadden was the lucky winner of the competition to win the Ultimate Ski Holiday to Whistler & Vancouver. After several months of anticipation and record snowfall, Neill headed off on his trip…

April 2011 and the most amazing ski holiday began with a routine traverse of London on the Piccadilly Line! Terminal 5, for anyone who hasn’t been there is quite unlike the rest of Heathrow and really quite nice! So after some pre flight food and drink in the lounge we went onboard and upstairs on the 747 – bit of a private cabin up there with only 20 seats so loads of space and peace, lovely food and of course champagne.

The Team May 18th, 2011

This morning Annecy & the other 2018 Winter Olympics candidate cities are making their presentations to the IOC.

The purpose of the meeting in Lausanne is to allow the three 2018 candidate cities,  Munich, Annecy and PyeongChang in South Korea, and the IOC members to discuss the finer elements of their bids and to give IOC members an opportunity to put questions to the cities prior to the final decision on the 6th July 2011 in Durban, South Africa. Late season skiing – it’s still falling!

The Team May 16th, 2011

Normally at this time of year, resorts’ Facebook feeds are full of mountain biking, spring walks and mountain flowers – however, this year seems to be different.

Where are you going skiing in 2011/12?

The Team March 24th, 2011

This season is still in full swing, and with record levels of snow in WhistlerMammoth and Colorado my feet are still itching to get some more turns in before packing away my boots.

However, I’ve also been tempted by some of next season’s early booking offers available in both North America and Europe. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler and the Westin Resort and Spa in Whistler have a superb 50% off early booking deal, resulting in some of the best prices around. These are proving very popular with many clients having taken advantage already for next winter. I have to say that I’m pretty tempted to get my ski holiday booked early too!

Superb March conditions in Whistler

Some of the French properties are getting involved as well and have released their rates for 2011/12 – the earliest we’ve ever seen. We’re delighted to offer 10%  off a range of luxury self catered properties including four in Tignes, a brand new property in Alpe d’Huez and a new property in the resort of Val Cenis, which is on the French/ Italian border and is a very exciting addition to our European menu.

Choices, Choices… If you’re looking to next season and want to get the best price, just drop us a line and we’ll let you know the latest offers. There’re certainly some crackers out there, and it seems that the topic of conversation at the moment is “Where will we go next year?”…

Some Amazing Offers for Next Season

Gareth February 23rd, 2011

We’re starting to make lots of bookings for next season already and it’s never been truer that the early bird catches the worm!

Many skiers and boarders have already saved up to 50% on their accommodation in our most popular hotels and bagged the lowest flight prices, especially on busy departure dates.  Flights are now available to book for Christmas and New Year (these will sell out in all but the most expensive seats pretty quickly) and have also just been released for the February Half Term which is the week of 11 February for most schools next year.

Whistler is leading the way with the best prices throughout the 2011/12 season – if you book early with Ski Independence you can save between 30% and 50% depending on where you stay and when you travel.

My pick of the offers right now:

We’re adding properties daily as we work on getting our clients the very best deals out there – call us on 0131 243 8097 and let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll do the rest, we’re committed to give you the best information and find you the best offer out there! Our 2011/12 brochure will be available in the summer but for all the latest offers, resorts and properties check out the website.
