Ski Bucket List, Nicole

It would be great to be abel to recreate some of those scenes from ‘Art of Flight’, but since that is very unlikely to happen I’ll just stick with saving my pennies to get the chance to ski some of my favourite resorts worldwide, including:

  • Whistler for so many reasons, including it’s amazing accommodation and incredible snow!
  • Lake Tahoe (Northstar, Heavenly and Squaw Valley) – the lake is stunning and unique, and who wouldn’t want to ski in laid-back, sunny California?
  • Revelstoke – new for Ski Independence this year, but definitely near the top of my list, for the chance to do lift, cat, heli and backcountry skiing all from the same base…
  • …well my list is pretty much endless, I could go on!

The resorts around Lake Tahoe are definitely among my must-visits!

My Most Memorable Skiing Experience…

Well, that would have to be my first ever ski experience, in Edinburgh. Hillend is Europe’s longest artificial ski slope and, thinking I could ski no problem, I took myself all the way to the top. As you can imagine it didn’t end well; I skied full pelt into the safety mats at the bottom of the slope, flipped over them and landed in a heap on the other side. Ouch!

Vancouver is an absolute must if you visit BC

My Favourite Place to Stay…

If you are heading to any of the British Columbia, Canada resorts make sure you include a city stop-over in Vancouver, it’s an amazing city, I loved it. Check out the deep fried ice cream! The Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver is a recent addition to our programme and is a fantastic 5-star property located above the Pacific Centre in downtown Vancouver – ideal for taking in all the shopping, dining and culture that you require!

For families I would recommend…

Family friendly Big White

Big White, BC, Canada

It is easy to see why it has been voted as Canada’s favourite family resort.  Big White is a totally ski-in/ski-out resort, the ultimate in family friendly, and because of the altitude it provides comfortable as well as varied skiing, no lift lines and a pedestrianised village.

If you’re looking for alternatives to skiing there is a great selection available here, try your hand at ice climbing, ice skating, tubing, snow shoeing or dog sledding, all within walking distance around the Big White Ski Resort. With such easy access to everything you are bound to have a great and memorable family holiday!
