Inside Track – Ski Bucket List, Cathy

The Team September 11th, 2013

First in a new series of blog posts from our reservations team, Cathy gives us her top tips on where to ski this coming winter as a family, as a couple, and what she would do if money were no object! Cathy has skied all over the Alps and North America and always make sure she and her family gets their snow fix each and every winter.

For families I would recommend…

Les Cimes Blanches, La Rosière

Les Cimes Blanches in La Rosière: ski-in/ski-out with the ESF ski school meeting point just below the residence, easy to ski down to it in the morning. The residence is located in Les Eucherts in La Rosière and offers everything you need – shops, restaurants, etc. The ski rental shop is located in the residence so that is super convenient! A nice resort too if you have a non-skier in the party. High altitude for guaranteed snow and south facing to get plenty of sun! Traditional pretty village with weekly local market!

The ski area, “L’Espace San Bernardo”, is great there too, and with the link to La Thuile you can enjoy the perfect ski day out – get a nice Italian lunch on the slopes!

Montgenèvre is great for families too: amazing value for money at the ski-in/ski-out Residence Les Chalets des Dolines. This resort is a short transfer from Turin airport and also very close to the Italian border. The ski area is huge! High altitude and plenty of sun there too. I’ve been there with 2 kids and there’s a good choice of ski schools.

For couples I would recommend…

La Clusaz – perfect for couples

La Clusaz: only one hour’s drive from Geneva, it makes the perfect destination for a short stay as well. La Clusaz is a traditional village with lots of nice shops, local products, bars and restaurants. The ski area is great, spreading over 3 different mountains and you won’t ski the same run twice on the same day if you don’t want to!

I’d also recommend Megève: bring your fur coat, and loads of cash, and you’ll be able to truly enjoy it!

If my budget were limitless…

The Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gluch

I would probably fly Club World to Denver with British Airways, stay 3 nights at the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch in Beaver Creek, an amazing hotel to get over the jet lag, ski Beaver Creek for 3 days, the right place to “get your ski legs back” on the perfectly groomed slopes!

Then transfer to Vail and staying 4 nights at The Arrabelle in a Premier room with mountain view and a fireplace. Enjoying the nightlife in Vail Village and the back bowls! Going one day skiing in the back bowls!

Transfer back to Denver airport. Fly direct into Montrose, there take a car hire (a 4×4) and drive to Telluride, stay 5 nights at the Peaks resort & Spa in a Grand Sunset Vista 1 bedroom Suite. (nice view indeed!!) Probably do one day of heliskiing! (the budget is unlimited I just remembered!!!). Fly back with United to Los Angeles – stay 2/3 nights at the Fairmont Santa Monica. Fly back Club World (or First!) to London Heathrow.
