Fresh tracks in Sun Peaks

Colin Brost January 25th, 2010

On Friday afternoon, Colin Brost of Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia took some time out of the office to check out one of the Sun Guide tours.

I was lucky enough to join a complimentary Sun Guide tour with one of the best guides on the mountain, Thor who has been a Sun Guide for over 9 years at Sun Peaks Resort. He volunteers to take guests to his favorite little spots and give them an understanding of the three mountains as well as a bit of history and some funny stories about the place. I know the mountain pretty well but after following Thor around I got a new perspective and some choice new lines to ski! We couldn’t have asked for a better day. It was about -6 centigrade and not a cloud in the sky.

There was about 8cm of new snow the previous night so we found some little powder stashes over on Mt. Morrisey and had a great run through the trees on “I dunno”. Big giant slalom turns around pockets of trees…Thor is too fast for me to be able to stop and take a photo on that one, but “I dunno” is now one of my favorites!

Top of the World - 21 Jan 2010

The views at the Top of the World were endless, great shots of Mt. Dunn, and Shuswap Lake in the valley, 2152 meters below. The day ended by a blast from top to bottom, past the snow ghosts in the alpine down the village for a refreshing…beverage. It was then I noticed the sun burn line between the top of my goggles to the bottom of my helmet….nice! If you have a chance, I highly recommend taking advantage of a Sun Guide Tour which is complimentary and departs the village day lodge at 9:15am and 1:00pm!

What can I say…just a typical Friday afternoon at the office! Just don’t tell my wife I wasn’t in a meeting!!!”
