Insider’s guide to Avoriaz and Hotel des Dromonts

Karen January 15th, 2015

If we put together a list of our most requested elements for a ski holiday it might read like this: a mid price hotel with a spa, ski-in/ski-out access, a snow-sure resort, a large ski area, a short transfer and can we also make sure there’s lots of availability for short breaks as well? Until now it’s been tricky trying to tick all of those boxes, but the newly renovated Hotel des Dromonts in Avoriaz offers all that and more.

Early Season Skiing – France November 2013

The Team November 28th, 2013

Nikki and Nicole from our reservations team have just returned from a few days in the French Alps where they managed to visit a lot of resorts, stopped in on many of our featured properties and also managed to get some fantastic early season skiing and snowboarding in. Here’s a round-up from Nikki and some great photos from Nicole.

Working with Ski Independence definitely has its perks, and this week we were lucky enough to take part in a fam trip to France. Not only to familiarise ourselves with the resorts, but to see all the amazing properties where we send our clients every winter. Knowing the resorts and properties inside-out is an essential part of being in the sales team, it means we can give the very best advice and share our first hand experiences. Residence Amara Avoriaz Review

Michael May 1st, 2013

When the four-star luxury Residence Amara opened in 2012, Avoriaz could finally offer guests the high end apartment product they had been crying out for. Adding L’Amara has meant the resort footprint and amenities have got bigger and better and Avoriaz can now go head to head against other French resorts which had already offered four star self catering apartment products.

Ski Independence Managing Director, Michael, took his family on holiday to Residence Amara in March and here is his Residence Amara Avoriaz review. Read the rest of this entry »

“Let it snow Let it snow Let it snow”

The Team December 6th, 2012

As Dean Martin and Michael Buble have sung before this is certainly being sung by ski resorts all over Europe and in Canada at the moment.

With not wanting to sound like Michael Fish or that nice lady Carol who reads the weather on BBC, there is a long prolonged low front sitting right over central Europe, bringing cold and snowy conditions that’s dumping serious amounts of the white stuff as low as 800 metres above sea level. Over the next few days leading up to the weekend resorts in the Swiss and French Alps are expecting up to a metre of fresh snow and resorts such as Les Gets and Chamonix have already been suggesting opening the lift ticket windows and cranking up those lifts.

This is no Alpine farmers fable of “the cows are all looking West”, winter has arrived in the Alps big time. Read the rest of this entry »

Avoriaz – Aquariaz Water Park

Karen July 16th, 2012

‘This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius’… the ‘Fifth Dimension’ song seems kind of appropriate given the latest news from Avoriaz.

The brand new ‘Aquariaz’ Aqua park in Avoriaz opened its doors on 1st July, and will be welcoming our winter guests from December onwards. This is no ordinary swimming pool: it’s a huge indoor water wonderland filled with lush vegetation and fun activities for all the family.  Float down the river, slide down the aqua half-pipe, climb on the climbing wall, swim in the large pool, admire the panoramic mountain views, or soak in the outdoor hot-pool.
