Winter is coming (Honestly)!
Despite the unusual (but much welcomed) heatwave that we’re currently experiencing in the UK, reminders are popping up all over the place – from autumn leaves on the pavements, the snow show season, Edinburgh’s Mountain Film Festival to frost and snow warnings for next week – all letting us know that winter is just around the corner.
I recently spent a weekend in Chamonix and the changing of the seasons was in full swing. After scorching 34oC heat picking up the hire car in Geneva on the Friday, by Sunday morning the sun had vanished completely and temperatures were down to a chilly 7 oC! Here is a picture of the snow covered mountains peeking out of the clouds, a sure sign that winter is well on the way:

For the benefit of our readers could you explain your role at Ski Independence and what you’re responsible for?
I am part of the team that puts together the brochure and website and I stay in regular contact with our suppliers to make sure everything is kept up to date. I look after the ski extras for Europe so for many of our destinations you can book your lift passes and ski hire before you set off on your holiday. Importantly, I help to make sure the sales team has all the information they need and support the product managers to contract all the accommodation and extras that go into the ski holidays we sell. What’s new in Val Thorens for 2012?
The French ski resort of Val Thorens has had a busy summer with the completion of a forth Funitel, the addition of a great new 4 star hotel, the Hotel ALTAPURA, and the development of 3 new slopes. The addition of these new pistes, Asters, Chocard and Triton increase the overall ski area of Val Thorens-Orelle to 150km of runs!
We’re really excited to be featuring the Hotel Altapura in our 2011/12 brochure, it’ll be a great addition to our extensive 3 Valleys offerings. The hotel has 3 restaurants, 3 bars, an indoor / outdoor pool and a fantastic spa, everything you would want from a 4 star hotel and the location is hard to beat being right on the slopes. Snowboarding legend Shaun White signs deal with Vail Resorts
Vail Resorts has announced a long term partnership deal with the 2 time Olympic Halfpipe Gold Medalist, Shaun White.
With countless Winter X Games titles under his belt, as well as a highly successful skateboarding career, Shaun White is an ideal ambassador for Vail Resorts, sharing in their forward-thinking and innovative approach to the snow sports industry. Chairman of Vail Resorts, Rob Katz, said he “embodies the same leadership we aspire to at Vail Resorts” and the partnership is symbolic of a new energy seen in the snow sports industry today.
