Started at Ski Independence:
Skier or snowboarder:
Les Gets, Whistler
After graduating University in Poland with a degree in Culture Studies and Journalism, I went for a year travelling in New Zealand. Living in Queenstown over the winter season, it was inevitable that I ended up trying snowboarding at the Remarkables ski resort. After that I couldn’t go back to ‘normal life’ and kept travelling for next 5 years! In that time I've done seasons in Les Gets, France and in Whistler, Canada. Now since coming to Edinburgh I'm combining my love for snowboarding and travelling with a career.
The first ever piste I snowboarded was marked as black diamond – done by mistake obviously! – and I don't recommend it! It’s a good story now though… after a beer or two.
What inspires you?
My inspiration are Paralympians who go way out their comfort zone to fulfil their dreams and have to work that much harder to achieve their goals and become the best out of the best, yet they are doing it with passion and without giving up. That always reminds me that the power comes from within and nothing is impossible. Someone said: ‘If you really want to do something you’ll find a way, if you don’t you’ll find an excuse’.
What's your favourite resort, and why?
The best ski resort I have been to is Whistler, BC, Canada. For snowboarding it's the place where I've really pushed my limits and improved a lot. I’ve spent 7 months there and couldn’t get bored with the vast terrain, glaciers, bowls and parks. I found new runs each time I went up the mountain so no day was the same.
My next trip:
My next snowboarding trip will be Niseko in Japan, to experience the legendary powder, traditional Japanese culture and amazing food! Can’t wait!
