Bustling With Action, Laid Back in Attitude

Crested Butte Ski Holiday Guide

“The Last Great Colorado Ski Town” - Crested Butte is a little off the beaten track, but well worth the extra effort.

Originally a mining supply town, it retains its charm and authenticity, and lies beneath some of the most famous extreme skiing terrain in North America. If you’re not a fan of the extreme, don’t worry - the mountain also caters well for beginners and intermediates.

If you’re looking for something laid back, authentic and a stark contrast from the ordinary, Crested Butte could be for you.

Skiing in Crested Butte

Huge recent investments in mountain operations have helped create a fantastically modern and efficient lift system.

Once on the mountain, ski down the Headwall (a little more than your average thigh-burning warm-up run) to the North Face lift, which carries you up to the fearsome Extreme Limits: 500 acres of extreme terrain peppered with hair-raising trails.

Not everything in Extreme Limits will terrify you, but if you’re looking for extreme - defined here by chutes, trees, cliffs and drops - you've got it in spades. If that hasn’t already sent you schussing to the cross-country trails, it's worth noting that Crested Butte is also welcoming to intermediate and beginner skiers.

Better still, the laid back atmosphere and uncrowded slopes give a refreshingly unpretentious ski experience that will leave you wondering why you didn’t try Crested Butte before now.
