Japan Rusutsu Ski Holidays

Best Small Resort In Japan

Rusutsu Ski Holiday Guide

"Rusutsu is a fun destination. I’d recommend a twin centre trip with Niseko, as they are only 45minutes apart. The night skiing in Rusutsu is particularly great – where else will you be able to ski knee deep powder until 9pm at night?? On a clear day, the view takes your breath away with the Japan Sea to one side and the stunning volcano Mt Youtei (Hokkaido’s answer to Mt. Fujii) to the other side." Annika, Product Manager.

Rusutsu is the smaller of the three Japanese ski resorts which we feature, but this doesn't mean a lack of skiing, offering 1900 vertical feet and 4200 acres of Japan’s driest snow.

There are three ski mountains in Rusutsu - Mt Isola, East Mt and West Mt, all three have terrain suitable for beginners, intermeadiates and advanced skiers. Similar to neibourghing Niseko, off-piste skiing is permitted in Rusutsu, within the ski resort's boundary. There are some fantastic tree runs, which are near to unbeatable on a powder day as well as 42km of pistes for those who prefer to carve up their turns.

Off The Slopes in Rusutsu

Unlike any other ski resort that we know of, Rusutsu has a dramatic roller coaster located in its centre, which makes it feel somewhat like Disneyland on snow. Unfortunately though, the theme park is closed during the winter months. However the Rusutsu Resort complex offers maximum entertainment for all ages including a 4D movie theatre, carousels, karaoke rooms and tea lounges.

The resort is about one hour from Niseko and again is dominated by nearby Mount Yotei. From the top of Mt Isola you can see Lake Toya with the Pacific Ocean in the distance - quite a remarkable view.
