Vallorcine Ski Holiday Guide
The traditional community of Vallorcine is a unique and unspoilt ski village, with the peaks of the Aiguilles Rouges natural reserve providing an inspiring backdrop.
At the far end of the Chamonix valley, Vallorcine is close to the Swiss border, with easy access to the local ski area Le Tour/La Balme, as well as the vast Chamonix ski area.
Neighbouring Argentière is easily reached via the Mont Blanc Express train and a free shuttle bus also provides access to other parts of the Chamonix Valley (free of charge with a guest card).
Skiing in VallorcineVallorcine is one of several smaller resorts that make up the Chamonix Valley ski area with terrain suitable for all levels. The Le Tour/La Balme ski area is easily accessed from Vallorcine on the high speed 8-seater gondola, reaching the summit in just four minutes. This area is one of the best in Chamonix for intermediate skiers and offers a range of blues, reds and pretty tree-lined runs on the Vallorcine side. There are also some excellent off-piste options. Begninners are well catered for with the Le Poya area located just behind Vallorcine village. There is a snow garden for children, two drag lifts and a choice of easier runs. For other skiing options, the Chamonix lift pass encompasses five separate ski areas. You can easily access nearby Argentière for some more challenging runs and superb off-piste, Brévent and Flégère have some gentle beginner slopes, and the Aigulle du Midi has further off-piste options. Verbier is within easy reach and is included on the Mont Blanc Unlimited six day lift pass. There are several cross country trails in Vallorcine, offering options for beginners as well as more experienced cross country skiers. |
