Activities in Val d'Isère
Although you’ll be enjoying the skiing so much and the great shopping and nightlife of Val d’Isere so you’ll probably not have much time for anything else, the resort does have a long list of ‘off slope’ activities too, making it a good choice if you have a non-skier in your party or just want to take a night off.
There’s an excellent public leisure centre, admission to which is free, once a week, with your lift pass. -10 winter season. It incorporates fitness rooms, climbing wall, squash courts and a large wellness zone packed with sauna and steam bathes and many other spa facilities.
Back out on the snow you can try dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing or you can visit the igloo village and on the ice there’s skating and ice driving or you can ice climb up it.
There are numerous clubs and classes you can dip in to if you wish (ask at the tourist office) – including chess, bridge, yoga and French cooking.
Up above there’s flying possible in four different ways – paragliding, helicopter tours, light planes and microlight flights.
Travel at the speed of dog through the stunning Alpine forest paths and learn how to become a ‘musher’. This is a thrilling ride, and great fun for all ages.
Paragliding is a very popular alpine activity, and is such a great way to get a completely different perspective of the slopes that you have been skiing – a bird’s eye view to be exact!
Satski - Satnav for Skiing
This pocket-sized GPS system transforms a usual day's skiing into an interactive skiing experience. The fundamental feature of the Satski system is to create an interactive piste map that will guide, assist and record your movements throughout your day on the mountain. On top of this there are some additional features to this handy, clever little device which also display your current location, replay the runs you skied, provide information on local places of interest whilst also having games and an in-built MP3 player.
Snowmobiling is a great activity to help get that adrenaline pumping! Alaska Moto-Neige runs trips from beginners to the advanced and ensures that your trip is tailored to meet your pace. It’s a great activity for couples, families, groups and singles.
Snowshoeing is a great way to escape into the wilderness of the beautiful alpine mountains, and a great activity for the non-skier. There are many companies in Val d’Isère where you can rent snowshoes and the Tourist Office can provide you with details of the many walks.
