Serre Chevalier Vallée Ski Holiday Guide
“Serre Chevalier has fantastic off piste skiing, miles of quiet cruising slopes and almost guaranteed snow. A visit to the hot springs in Le Monêtier les Bains (Serre Chevalier 1500) is a must to ease yoru muscles and I would also highly recommend a trip to Briançon, the highest town in the Alps.” Claire, Assistant Product Manager.
Fondly known as ‘Grand Serre Ché’ due to its extensive ski area, the resort is made up of four self contained villages between Briançon, the highest town in Europe, and the famous Col du Lauteret.
Located in the Hautes Alpes, an area which boasts the most mountain peaks over 4000m, Serre Chevalier Vallée oozes French ambience and spectacular mountain scenery.

The fantastic snow record, challenging ski area and beautiful forest runs make Serre Chevalier Vallée the perfect ski holiday destination. Skiing in Serre Chevalier ValléeSerre Chevalier is the resort name for the four main villages located in a sunny south-facing valley at the foot of the most beautiful peaks in the Ecrins National Park. All linked by 250 km of ski runs and a local bus service, they stretch between the Lautaret pass and fortified Briancon, the highest town in Europe. There are actually 13 villages in total forming Serre Chevalier and skiing around them is a treat. The lift systems are well integrated and signposted offering easy links between the villages. Skiing at Chantemerle (Serre Chevalier) is extensive with the most notable of these runs being the ‘Luc Alphand’ black run back to the village which is great fun and can be tackled by most ability groups as there is the option of a green run which avoids some of the steeper sections. Villeneuve also has some tremendous skiing terrain - from the top bowl all the way back to the village through the trees. Casse du Boeuf and Bez are very good and the link to Monetier is worth doing as the runs back down to the town are excellent. A must when the weather is clear is the Yret Chair; the view from the top is amazing as is the red run back to the base. Try the "Brut de Neige" run, these are sign posted but not groomed runs, to let you enjoy the pistes in their natural condition ie. lots of powder! Or check out "The Melezone". Created by the Serre Chevalier snow park creators, this fun zone includes a range of areas for different abilities, the result is an area where everyone no matter what standard can have a try at "freestyle"! All the features are handmade - great fun! This extensive ski area is well worth a visit, if not only for its Mediterranean alpine climate that averages 300 days a year of sunshine per year! |
