Dining in Alpe d'Huez
There is an abundance of restaurants in Alpe d'Huez, from Savoyarde to tex-mex/Irish & Thai, you won't be hungry no matter what your tastes!
While in the Alps it is essential to try at least one of their traditional mountain specialities whether it be tartiflette, raclette, fondue, or one of the other variations on lots of melted cheese - its not exactly slimming but you can always ski it off later!! There is a plethora of Savoyarde restaurants in Alpe D'Huez; recommendations include Le Passe Montagne for good value on Route de la Poste, Le Petit Taverne in L'Eclose, Les Epiciers on Place de l'Ours Blanc and Au Ble Noir on Chemin des Bergers. Out of town but well worth a visit you will find L'Ancolie in Huez Village.
Other recommendations include L'Authentique on Avenue des Jeux. This wooden chalet-style restaurant serves traditional Italian dishes such as saltimbocca of calf with figs and gnocchi as well as sea fish skewers and a selection of fresh pastas served with homemade sauces.
Also worth a mention for its seafood is Le Fromagerie, situated opposite the ice rink.
For those who fancy something with a bit more of a kick there is the ever-popular Smithys Tavern. Their hearty Tex-Mex menu and homemade burgers will set you up for the night.
At the cheaper end of the scale there is a number of fast food outlets, one late night option being Captain Sandwich - open until 2am serving all your post-partying snack needs. Pizza Roll is also worth a mention for its mini-pizzas at a bargain €3!
Other notable mentions are Le Genepi, which receives a standing ovation for its ribs and Le P'tit Creux, which is renowned for its fine cuisine - traditional fare with a gourmet touch.
