Travelling on Eurotunnel

Where to find us

We are very easy to find, thanks to direct motorway links from the UK to France and visa versa.

In the UK: we are near Folkestone, and have our own motorway exit at junction 11A of the M20 straight to our Check-In booths.

In France: we are just outside Calais, take junction 42 of the A16 motorway and the slip road takes you straight to our Check-In booths.

Check-In

Please check in at least 30 minutes before your booked departure time, (and not more than 2 hours before). This allows for security checks at the French and British frontier controls, and time to get into the boarding lanes.

You will need your booking reference number and the credit/debit card you used to make your booking. If you booked online then it is the long number that appears on the booking confirmation screen or the number that our Contact Centre agent gave you. We ask that the cardholder travel in the car as a measure against credit/debit card fraud.

Self Check-In

Self Check-In is an easy way to check-in allowing you to print you departure hanger. When you arrive at Check-In, stop at the kiosks located before the main booths and simply follow the step-by-step instructions displayed on the touch screens to print your departure hanger. It's easy and only takes an instant.

Once through Check-In, you can either choose to visit the Passenger Terminal Buildings for a spot of shopping or a refreshment stop.Or drive straight through to the British and French frontier controls where your passport, vehicle and official documentation (including insurance and motor breakdown cover) will be checked.

Drive on - drive off

Boarding is simple and safe - you will be directed to your carriage by Eurotunnel staff. Simply drive off at the end of the crossing.

What to expect during your journey

Passengers stay with their vehicle throughout the journey in bright, air-conditioned carriages. Sit back and relax, or get out and stretch your legs. The visual display screens offer information about your journey. Onboard staff will be happy to answer any questions. Whatever you choose to do, the 35 minute journey will be over much quicker than you think.

Travelling with Pets

Since the introduction of the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS), it is very easy to take your pets on holiday with you, and when travelling on Eurotunnel your pets stay with you at all times. However there is some important information that you need to know prior to travel.

To bring your dog or cat into the UK under PETS you must have the following procedures carried out in the right order:

  • Have your PET microchipped (If your dog was tattooed in France, Denmark, Belgium or Sweden he can be microchipped after being vaccinated. This also applies for cats tatooed in France only)
  • Have your PET vaccinated against rabies
  • Arrange a blood test (not applicable for ferrets). Pets may not enter or re-enter the UK until 6 calendar months have passed from the date that a vet took the blood sample which gave a satisfactory test result.
  • Have your PET treated against ticks and a tapeworm* not less than 24 hours and not more than 48 hours before it is checked in with an approved transport company for its journey into the UK.
  • Stronghold is not a licensed treatment for ticks or rabies vaccination.

Ticks & tapeworm treatment to be given by a registred vet and logged in your *pets passport.

Pets passport

The EU pet passport was introduced in July 2004 for cats and dogs travelling between the UK and other EU countries.

The passport must confirm your pet's microchip number and date the microchip was inserted, the rabies vaccination and provision for recording the tick and tapeworm treatment. A Eurotunnel agent will be checking this information on the day of your journey.

(To be accepted under the PETS programme, the vaccination against rabies done after the 1 October 2004 must be shown on a passport and not on a certificate, however if your pet was vaccinated before this date, the official veterinary certificate is accepted until the "valid until" date shown.)
